Castelanelli Bros. Dairy in Lodi, California is operated by Larry Castelanelli, a third generation
dairyman. Larry has installed a cover on the manure lagoon to trap methane that would
otherwise be emitted to the atmosphere. He uses the green renewable methane to fuel a low
NOx engine to make electricity for his dairy. PG&E will purchase any excess electricity made
from the renewable methane. The project reduces greenhouse gas emissions and oil
imports. The greenhouse gas emission reductions are verified and registered on the Chicago
Climate exchange. There are tours of Larry’s Dairy on the RCM webpage.
Larry offers annual tours of his Dairy; please contact RCM for more information.
