The technology has been tested and proven over the last 20 years. RCM is the national market
leader in livestock waste anaerobic digestion technology. RCM serves not only farm facilities but
also non-farm clients.
RCM is led by Mark Moser and consists of highly qualified staff professionals. RCM is located in
Oakland, California. The first digester designed by Mr. Moser was built in 1982 in Durham,
California and is still operating today. Almost half of the operating digesters in the US are RCM's
digesters. RCM received 4 State and National Environmental Awards.

Anaerobic digestion is a biological process whereby bacteria break down organic materials such as
animal manure into biogas in the absence of oxygen. Biogas from a digester consists mainly of
methane (60-70%) and carbon dioxide (30-40%). Biogas is used as a fuel to produce electricity for
farm use and/or for sale. Biogas can also fire a boiler to produce a source of heat. Excess biogas
must be flared for safety odor control. See above to learn about the different types of digesters
available.

So, Should I Build A Digester?

Good question, here's the place to start working on an answer. AURI, Minnesota funded the
development of a self screening document to assist potential digester owners in assessing
whether a digester makes sense on a farm.

"The whole town knows I am doing something new because the farm is now more nose friendly. The typical smell is gone and the liquid is much easier to handle," Bob Aman, AA Dairy
